An Interactive Workshop titled, “Prospects and Challenges of Natural Farming in Nagaland” sponsored under TSP was organized by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, on 10th February 2025 at Conference Hall of ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema. Dr. H. Kalita, HoRC, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema gave the welcome address and introduction of the interactive workshop. The Chief Guest, Dr. Girish Patil S, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema stressed the importance of natural farming for northeast India particularly Nagaland. The invited speaker Prof. D. Thakuria, Dean, College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences, CAU, Umiam, Meghalaya, informed the gathering about the concept, principles and benefits of natural farming. He also stressed that natural farming is a circular economy whose principle is based on local adaptability. He also called upon the state department officials to play active role in implementation of natural farming in the state. Another subject expert, Dr. Badapmain Makdoh, Sr. Scientist (Agronomy), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Meghalaya, presented experimental results on natural farming and also discussed the benefits and challenges of natural farming in Northeast India. He stressed that natural farming should be adopted in gradual process along with the conventional farming. The programme was also attended by officials from the Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture and Veterinary, Govt. of Nagaland. A total of 133 participants gathered on the occasion comprising of mostly of farmers and some invited officials and staff of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema. Some agricultural inputs like sprayer, garden pipes and spades were distributed to all the farmers. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mathew S. Baite, Scientist (Plant Pathology), ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema.
